Seriously? You swap that shit out the moment it arrives just like registration paperwork (even though they should be able to look it up easily).

I try to keep a copy in my wallet, because keeping track of 4 cars is a pain. I need to set reminders for all the registrations because they’re all different months.

Here in Pennsylvania, by law we have 5 days to present proof of insurance to negate a citation for lack of proof of insurance.
(g) Defenses.—
(1) No person shall be convicted of failing to produce proof of financial responsibility under this subchapter or section 3743 (relating to accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property) or 6308 (relating to investigation by police officers) if the person produces, at the office of the issuing authority within five days of the date of the violation, proof that he possessed the required financial responsibility at the time of the violation.
I would check your relevant laws to see if there is a similar defense listed for you.

But why did he pull you to begin with?

I keep a copy in my work notebook because rental companies don’t always understand the paper for our business insurance. The one in my wallet is probably 3 years old (not ideal).

Speeding, but could not prove my speed as he did not clock it.

So he would’ve found something to ticket you for anyway? That’s frustrating, but at least no points.

At least it was a legit issue to give a ticket.

I was cited with the same thing in MI. Cop with nothing better to do decides to follow me until he saw my registration tag wasn’t on my plate (I was on my way to register at the DMV). Afterward, I sent in proof of my valid insurance to the court, and they dismissed the citation. The citation was no proof of insurance, and I sent in proof. So...
Do what geoff says and give it a shot.

no option to bring your details to the police station to avoid a ticket?

Yeah, I got stopped (or more accurately: crashed) in PA without a current card (I had an expired one), and the trooper just gave me his info so I could fax a current card to him once I got home.

Does your providerhave a website that you can log in and view the card?
I’ve done that when pulled over and when getting plates renewed.

In some states, a digital copy of your insurance card will suffice. I know I can use my insurance providers app on my phone in New York State and South Carolina. Check your local laws.

my insurance doesnt even send physical cards anymore because the state of illinois allows digital copies to be allowed. so i just show the trooper my phone with my card pulled up and thats that
